Carnival of the Capitalists
The April 4 edition of Carnival of the Capitalists is up, hosted in style by the excellent Law & Entrepreneurship Blog.
This week’s Carnival of the Capitalists is brought to you by Mantra Brand Consulting. Our “Brand Humanity” series of web seminars will look at high-level strategies to tactical “how-to’sâ€? of opening dialogues with employees and customers using new technologies like blogs, wikis and forums. The series will also help business managers navigate the blogosphere and better manage their brands in a highly networked marketplace. You can enroll here.
Next week’s host will be TJ’s Weblog.
Submit your entries, by 3:00 PM eastern time Sunday, to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the Gongol.com submission form or the universal carnival submission form.

Carnival of the Capitalists - Some Clarification
The intended window in which a CotC is to be published on the host blog is late Sunday afternoon to Monday morning, as late as noon if necessary. If Monday is a holiday, the host may choose to treat it as a one day extension, in otherwise the same timeframe, but should give notice of that intention. The intended format is a single post, at the same time.
Part of the reason for Monday as the edition date, and Sunday afternoon to Monday morning as the publication window, was to allow plenty of time for the host to read the submitted posts and create the CotC over the weekend, if not starting prior to the weekend. As CotC has grown, the number of posts have created a task of several hours reading, organizing and writing. This is why we ask that entries be in before the last minute, and not later than 3:00 PM eastern time each Sunday.
It is simply not viable to wait until Monday morning to begin even to review the e-mails containing the submissions. If your schedule and commitments are such that you will not be able to start work on CotC until the publication date, please request that arrangements be made to have another host cover the week, perhaps as a trade of hosting slots if a different week works better for you. Alternatively, arrange for assistance in preparing the post for you to publish. Let’s keep things functioning smoothly and within the publication window everyone has come to expect over the past eighteen months.

Part 2 Carnival of the Capitalists Plus Feedback Requested
It’s Wednesday, so part 2 of the experimentally 2-part March 28 edition of Carnival of the Capitalists is up at The Mobile Technology Weblog. Part 1 was here.
Please be sure to check it out so the part 2 entries get some eyeballs too. One of the predictable problems with breaking it in two is that it requires two links in the same week from Glenn Reynolds, who has supported CotC since before it was unleashed on the world. That’s a lot to ask. It remains to be seen whether he will link part 2, but it’s not looking good so far.
Rather than rewrite for the blog, here is what I wrote in my e-mail to the CotC list, announcing it was up:
It would still be interesting to know how people view the 2-part experiment, so feel free to e-mail and/or comment. A very small number of readers opined, but those were almost universally negative. Since that included me, chances are this will not be repeated.
More importantly, do any of you have thoughts on how things might be streamlined for reading or creating each CotC? It typically takes a host about six hours. A typical reader is going to skim through and only click and read selected posts, which I personally find easier if they’ve been categorized, even though when I hosted I found categorizing too much additional bother to do formally.
Would there be merit in having a set array of categories, with the bloggers who submit entries specifying which category they mean to be in?
Would there be merit in the hosts being more selective about what to include? Currently they are free to exclude entries, but are encouraged to include anything on topic.
Would there be merit in narrowing the scope of what is considered on topic?
I am not sure there is any real need to change anything, at least not yet, but it can’t hurt to see what other people think.
Feel free to comment here or e-mail me with your thoughts.

Carnival of the Capitalists
This week’s Carnival of the Capitalists is something of an experiment. Russell has divided the entries in half, posting part 1 today, with part 2 to follow on Wednesday.
Personally, I don’t think it’s ideal, and I suspect that will be the consensus. Still, experimentation will tell us for sure. I’ve already been copied on one negative feedback e-mail, which makes the good point that Wednesday is the day for Carnival of the Vanities; something we considered when choosing Monday originally. There is an address provided for feedback over there.
In any event, here is part 1 of this week’s CotC.
The second part is planned for Wednesday at The Mobile Technology Weblog, and I will similarly announce it.
Er… the “next” Carnival of the Capitalists will be hosted by Law & Entrepreneurship News.
Send your entries to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the Gongol.com Submission Form, or use the Universal Carnival Submission Form.
Remember the new deadline is Sunday at 3:00 PM, subject to whether the host chooses to change it.

Kind of Like the Un-Cola
Heh. There is now a Carnival of the Un-Capitalists, inspired in part by Carnival of the Capitalists.
I won’t say “good idea,” but it’s certainly an intriguing idea and not really surprising. We’ve always invited and expected posts on abuses perceived or real, philosophically questioning or dissenting posts regarding capitalism, and that sort of thing, as part of CotC. If it’s perceived otherwise, or as unfriendly to that sort of entry, then it makes sense for an alternative to arise. That’s the nature of the medium and of ideas. It’s almost downright… capitalistic.

Amazing
The hosting slots for Carnival of the Capitalists are now filled for the next seven months. Nothing is open until November. Wow.

Carnival of the Capitalists
I forgot to post this earlier when I updated the CotC page and sent notice to the mailing list.
The March 21 Carnival of the Capitalists is up at Beyond the Brand, with just over fifty entries. Impressive.
Next week’s edition will be at The Mobile Technology Weblog.
Submit entries by 3:00 PM eastern time on Sunday unless the host has specified otherwise. This is a change from the guideline of 6:00 PM, and will make it easier to allow time to compile CotC on a Sunday evening without also pulling in late entries.
Send entries to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use either of two available submission forms:
Universal Carnival Submission Form
Gongol.com CotC Submission Form

Early Deadline for This Week’s Carnival of the Capitalists
John Winsor, host of the next Carnival of the Capitalists, is asking that entries be in by 3:00 PM EST on Sunday. The normal, approximate guideline is 6:00, but 3:00 is well within the range envisioned before custom leaned things later on a regular basis. Turns out he is traveling first thing Monday morning, so needs to be able to complete and post CotC at a reasonable time Sunday evening.
Please get your entries in early.

Confessions of a Carnival Host
In response to some people being curious, Warren has an excellent post on what it is like to host both Carnival of the Capitalists and Carnival of the Vanities. He compares the traffic, the effort involved, the linkage, and has great tips if you are contemplating hosting either of those blogosphere events.

Carnival of the Capitalists
The February 28 edition of Carnival of the Capitalists is up at Coyote Blog.
Next week CotC will be at Blogcritics.org. Send entries to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the Gongol.com submission form, or use the new universal carnival submission form, which covers CotC, as well as some you might never have heard of. It’s worth knowing about, hosted by Conservative Cat.
I’m not sure I would call CotC a “spinoff” of Carnival of the Vanities, but it did serve as part of the inspiration for the idea and an almost tongue in cheek source of the name.
As always, the list of future hosts can be found at the Carnival of the Capitalists page, and there is also a page for past locations.

Carnival of the Capitalists
The latest Carnival of the Capitalists is up at The Raw Prawn.
For future hosts and info, check the Carnival of the Capitalists page. There is also a list of past CotC locations.
Next week’s host will be Coyote Blog, a favorite of mine, discovered when he volunteered to host. He also has an excellent entry this week that I planned to link and remark about after I read it yesterday. Send entries to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the handy Gongol.com submission form.

As you can see at the Carnival of the Capitalists page, next week’s host will be The Raw Prawn. Send your entries to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the Gongol.com form. Carnival of the Capitalists Mailing List
For anyone who might be interested, the former announcement lists for Carnival of the Capitalists have been merged.
Hosts was on the Mailman list manager of elhide.com’s hosting, and was for “once and future hosts” to get announcements when CotC was up, and sometimes discuss ideas for CotC.
CC was a list hosted in my office, which anyone could subscribe via e-mail, for announcements when each week’s CotC had been published. It was by far the bigger list.
The two have been merged into a list named CotC, hosted on elhide.com using the Mailman list service.
To subscribe you can go to:
http://elhide.com/mailman/listinfo/cotc_elhide.com
That’s also the place to log on an change your options.
This information is also being published as an update to the Carnival of the Capitalists page.

Carnival of the Capitalists
Then January 24 Carnival of the Capitalists is up at Business Opportunites Weblog.
Next week’s scheduled host is Ashish’s Niti. He has not posted since December 21, so I hope that’s not a bad sign. If I can’t raise him by e-mail, I’ll see what I can do about having another host standing by.
Update:
There will be no change of hosts for the next edition. He’s back from vaction and ready to go!

Speaking of Carnivals…
The Carnival of the Capitalists is up!
I’m sure Jay will be by later to give you the long-form announcement, but I thought I’d point it out now. Just for the why-not of it.
CotC and Busy This Morning
Forgetting it was a holiday, even if a lesser one, not realizing it would snow fairly substantially, I committed to being in Quincy at 9:30 this morning to meet a client vendor regarding a networked scanner/copier/printer/fax problem. I don’t even remember the problem, as the client first mentioned it so long ago and to me I believe it sounded minor. It took several weeks to get the guy from the company that leases and maintains the device to actually respond Thursday. I called him Friday, said “Monday or Tuesday?” He said “how about Monday at 9:30?” I said “sure” and here I am with facing late rush hour traffic to Quincy (which really isn’t a big deal but could be) in snow. Though the main significance of the snow is having to clean off the car and do some shoveling.
This also explains why the client called yesterday to confirm when I was coming to his office, since he could have taken the day off or shown up late. He’s a workaholic, but with courts closed he’d have had nothing pressing.
Anyway, last I looked, Carnival of the Capitalists was not up yet at Small Business Trends, but that is where to keep an eye out for it. I have no idea when I will be able to announce it properly when it is up, or whether Anita plans to delay it a day due to the holiday. Don’t be alarmed if it goes up tonight or first thing Tuesday. If it goes up while I am busy, I’ll update the CotC page and announce it when I can.
Okay, coffee is almost gone. Gotta get moving.

January 10 Carnival of the Capitalists Is Up
The latest Carnival of the Capitalists is up at Odyssey of the Mind. It’s packed full of business and economics links. You’re sure to find something there of interest, and maybe even discover new blogs you hadn’t seen before.
As you can see by checking the Carnival of the Capitalists page, next week’s CotC will be hosted at Small Business Trends.
There is a past hosts page, in case you’d like to catch up on ones you missed when they were originally published. A few of them are no longer there, as the host blogs have closed, but most are.
http://elhide.com/solo/cc.htm will take you to the latest CotC, wherever it may be.
To enter, use cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com. Include the post URL, blog name and URL, and a brief description of what the post is about. If there may be some question about what it has to do with business or economics, this helps you defend it in advance, as well as ensuring that any especially esoteric post can be described in CotC by the host.
Alternatively, use Brian Gongol’s CotC submission form, which prompts for all the appropriate information. In an impressive adoption curve, most entrants use that these days.
Entries should be in by 6:00 PM eastern time on Sunday to have some assurance they will be included in that week’s edition of CotC.

Dead Capitalists
The old submission address of capitalists -at- elhide -dot- com is gone. I have forwarded misdirected entries to it (and received spam from it) for the last time.
Sadly, I just discovered today that the update I am absolutely sure I had done to the Carnival of the Capitalists page, reflecting the new cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com address, was not evident. Not as a bold announcement across the top where I was sure I had done just that. Not in the fine details later on the page, where I am really sure I had made the change.
I’m not sure what’s up with that. Possibly I made a change from Not At Home where I keep the master copy, then forgot to synchronize. Possibly I am growing senile and only thought I’d made the edits. Anyway, they are there now so nobody can be misled. I can only hope I didn’t also lose any hosts with waylaid edits or revision reversions.
Of course, you can also use http://www.gongol.com/random/cotc/ for submissions, avoiding the issue of what address entirely.

First Carnival of the Capitalists of 2005
Lisa Haneberg of Management Craft has the first Carnival of the Capitalists for 2005. It’s arranged in an intriguingly different way that fits the time of year, and it’s impressively laden with links to business and economics-related posts of all kinds.
Important reminder: The original address for entries to CotC will be dead today, following a lengthy winding down period. Do not send e-mails regarding CotC to the capitalists -at- elhide -dot- com address. Your entries will no longer get through that way.
The new address is cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, and there is also a handy entry form at http://www.gongol.com/random/cotc/ that goes to the right place and prompts you for the appropriate details.
Next week’s Carnival of the Capitalists, the January 10 edition, is scheduled for Odyssey of the Mind.

Last Carnival of the Capitalists of 2004 Is Up
Dane Carlson has the last CotC of 2004 up at Business Opportunities Weblog.
As you can see at the hosts and info page, Dane will also be hosting the January 24 edition, which balances out having volunteered for arguably the worst slot of the year. Yet there were still a nice number of fine entries.
More importantly in the nearer term, Management Craft will be hosting the first CotC of 2005, the January 3 edition. Entries go to cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com, or use the Gongol.com submission form at:
http://www.gongol.com/random/cotc/.

Stay Tuned For CotC
Carnival of the Capitalists for this week is not up yet, but when it is, it will be at Business Opportunities Weblog. It appears there were nearly as many entries as in a non-holiday week, so there’s plenty to look forward to later when it’s up.

12/20 Carnival of the Capitalists Is Up
Carnival of the Capitalists is up at XTremeBlog. It’s not categorized, but there seems to be a pattern of sorts.
Business Opportunities Weblog hosts the next edition, in probably the worst slot of the year for getting lots of entries and links. Perhaps you could make a point to enter a business or economics post you write this week or have recently written. It should have substantive writing of your own, and not do little more than point to a link. E-mail cotcmail -at- gmail -dot- com or use Brian Gongol’s CotC submission form.

Whither Kensho Godchaser?
Kensho Godchaser is scheduled to host the May 10 edition of Carnival of the Capitalists. His site seems to be down, and has for a while.
Anyone know what’s up with that? Obviously if he cannot host, I will need to have someone else fill in. I have an idea who I might ask first. Otherwise I will consider volunteers on a first come, first served basis.
4/19 Carnival of the Capitalists Is Up
Lynne Kiesling of Knowledge Problem has put together an excellent looking CotC this week.
There seem to be rather few entries. I’d like to see wider participation! Perhaps you could help out by reminding people of CotC when you see good biz and econ posts, or by suggesting other people’s posts yourself. The hosts and info page is at http://www.elhide.com/solo/cotc.htm for more details (though it could use some updating, which I expect I’ll get to eventually). Send entries to capitalists -at- elhide.com and they will forward to the current host.
In this case, that would be Gordon Smith of Venturpreneur, who hosts the April 26th edition.
Looking for previous editions of Carnival of the Capitalists? They are listed at http://elhide.com/solo/pastcotc.htm so you can find them easily.
I have yet to update the redirection to this week’s CotC, but generally the URL http://elhide.com/solo/cc.htm will take you to the most recent Carnival of the Capitalists.
Update:
I just counted the links in CotC and it only looked lighter than normal. There are actually close to thirty, which is typical. But don’t let that stop you from adding to the fun!
Carnival of the Capitalists
This week’s Carnival of the Capitalists isn’t up yet, but feel free to keep an eye on Knowledge Problem for it. I’ll post, update the Carnival of the Capitalists page, and send e-mail to the list once I hear from Lynne. It’s early yet; just thought I would let you know, in case you’re looking for it.

Welcome From Jay
Welcome to Accidental Verbosity.
I know it’s not much of a launch if I don’t post anything, but I will be busy today completing the 1065 and associated forms for the business, conjuring up numbers for same. I’m already past my “be done by March 15th” target.
Perhaps if it goes well, I will take a break and add more here later. With both of us posting, it should generally be more active than our individual blogs have been.
As far as Carnival of the Capitalists goes, the pages will remain hosted on elhide.com, along with my old blog. They are linked over to the right, just lower on the sidebar than they were at my old place.
