Alrighty, then.
Since the theme of my day today seems to be irritated at the world, now would be a good time to launch a series I’ve been considering for a while.
You see, I’m rapidly losing my patience with the Republican Party. Not that there are any alternatives, really, but on many things big and small my agenda and their agenda don’t meet up. Some of these I was aware of before I signed up. Others are only now becoming clear.
In any case, this disconnect has inspired me to start listing out the ways in which I am a lousy Republican. Some are silly, and some are serious, but it seems that I add to the list almost daily now. Irresitable blog-fodder.
So here you are. Reason I’m a lousy Republican, #1: I’ll never, never boycott Ben & Jerry’s. Ever.
More to come.
I have personally avoided Ben & Jerrys since 91. I did not do it because I am a Republican, nor have I heard of a Republician drive to boycott the product. I do it as a personal statement of my right a a consumer to make choices. Owners of businesses have a right to speech, and I have a right to choose where I spend my money. Would that I had as much to say over where the gumment spends the rest of my money. I don’t understand why this upsets you.
Posted by on 07/14 at 03:09 PMWell, this one was meant to be humorous. Silly, even. Apparently I missed the mark.
I’m aware that there’s no GOP campaign to boycott in an organized way. I’ve been told more than once, though, that I’m obviously on “the other side” since I choose to partake of their products.
I don’t give a shit if people choose not to give them money. I object to the characterization of those who do as terrorist sympathizers. I am aware that this is also not an offical GOP position.
Perhaps I need dual series: ways I’m a lousy Republican, and ways I’m a lousy right-wing blogger.
*shrug*
Posted by Deb on 07/14 at 03:18 PMHere in Kansas, the chair of the state Republican Party thinks that the burning issues in our state are not our compartively high tax burden, not the fact that our most valuable export is young people between 18034, not the fact that the state defines itself as an agricultural enclave, and not the fact that we have 105 counties, 420 townships, and 300+ school districts for a state of 2.7 million people.
Nope, the biggest priority is gays. And evolution.
I’m seriously considering running for state legislature as an independent.
Posted by on 07/14 at 05:06 PMThere’s no organized boycott? Dang. And that’s one thing I could have signed on to with no consequence, since I’ve never been a big fan of the stuff to begin with.
Posted by bryan on 07/14 at 10:24 PMI made a personal choice not to by Ben & Jerry’s, Newman’s Own or Dannon when it came to my attention that these companies donate to the victim disarmament movement. I don’t tell other people what not to buy, but I do tell them to try Aldi’s Grandessa ice creams, which are a much better deal than B & J’s.
