American Idol - What He Said
I was going to write an Idol post, and even attempted to take notes during the show. Unusually, we’re in almost complete agreement with Dean, so I will mostly make my thoughts what he said.
This is a tough week for my usual method of naming a bottom three. There is a clear and unquestionable bottom one: Taylor Hicks. YMMV on the next two. It’s easier to name the tops, this time, and Paris indeed seems to be the winner, or among the top three at worst.
I found I liked some of it better than Deb, who knew most of the songs.
Of course, everyone knows Take Me Home Country Roads, which leads to two thoughts; one I observed last night, and the other this morning. With that choice, Taylor played it safe, choosing the same old well-known pop music that he prefers. It was country, but not. It surprises me that he played it perhaps the safest of them all. With that choice, Taylor picked something so well known that it’s easier for people to hear the flaws. Bad choice.
I rather liked Mandisa, enough that I’d hate to call her bottom three, but in relative terms I can see her landing in people’s lists.
We liked Bucky a lot better than Dean did. They appeared to want to showcase him by tossing him at the end.
Chris did what he had to do; showed he can sing and it needn’t be rock. As I put it, he showed that he can sing Urgent or Hot Blooded, but also sing Waiting For A Girl Like You. Or similar “mellow song by a rock group” numbers.
Anyway, see Dean’s post for a mostly “me too” rundown…
