And of course…
My plan for the day was to do some programming work at home, which I was close to the point of launching into when the power went out. Not that it merely went out. Oh no. It went out, went on, went out, and went on at a brownout level. For the first half of the time the power was down, it was merely down, as if any lights in the place had been “romantically” dimmed to need a flashlight to read the menus and see the food levels of pseudoluminosity. May as well have been out.
I had forgotten how much we’d come to depend on artificial lighting to remind us it’s okay to be awake and active. Not to mention how much I depended on electricity to to, you know, do my job. Kind of hard to program or even monitor client e-mail when the computer is a proverbial paperweight.
It’s also time for me to get a UPS. Deb has the one I got a few years ago, on her computer, on the theory it’s the better and harder to lose computer and needs the protection more. I can get a surprisingly good UPS these days for the same as I paid for my super surge protector several years ago. I can get one far better than the one we have for around half the cost. Not that being able to keep working for an hour would help when the power goes out for three hours, but hey. It at least means not losing work and shutting down gracefully.
Oh well. There might be some sun poking through starting Friday. Yay.
Heh. they were just lamenting your weather on FoxNews.... and according to the weather chick there’s more coming.....
