Bits & Pieces
Things I would write about properly if I had time:
--The myth that nursing guarantees you’ll lose all of your baby weight easily and early...my body seems to be worried that it now has two people to protect from starvation, and is way overcompensating. Judging from a few conversations I’ve had, I’d say that such a reaction is not uncommon. It is, however, extremely frustrating.
--The inevitability of national ID cards. Massachusetts and California both require your Social Security number (and in Mass they must physically see the card *and* warn you that it will be verified with the SSA anyway), and I’m sure there are other states that do also. With the states relying on the feds for partial verification of your identity, there’s a de facto system already sliding into place. Nevermind that the SSN is meant to be used for no such thing. National ID cards would be a simplification in some ways, and would allow for the creation of a huge new bureaucracy, so I suspect that it’s only a matter of time. I’m sort of surprised that it’s taking so long, since such a thing has been inevitable, IMHO, since the Union won the Civil War, but that’s another post. Please don’t confuse my acknowledgement of the likelihood of the thing with approval; I think it’s a stupid idea and nasty in all sorts of tyrannical ways besides. Unfortunately, my opinion isn’t enough to stop it.
--Please don’t brag to me about your misuse of government funds. I understand desperation, but it isn’t anything to be *proud* of.
--Why I think Hillary Clinton will be our next president. Again, not necessarily approval, just my read on reality.
--My husband makes the best damned turkey soup I’ve ever had.
Not neccesarily sure I would like Hillary as president...but would be nice to have a woman “in charge” for once!
