Cold Leak Found (Updated)
The fountainhead of cold air coming into our bedroom closet, and thus into our bedroom, is, as suspected, up above the ceiling tiles. I will probably update this post with pictures after Deb has had a chance to download them off the camera.
The true ceiling has cracks in it. Large ones. With some associated water stains. In addition, one of the walls has a couple of large slices cut in it. Probably not to the outside, but through the inner wall. Outside air is pretty much flowing right in, somewhere between the various large cracks and saw cuts.
It’s flowing in from above the suspended ceiling, plus probably around the window and some elsewhere through the walls (about a foot above my head when I am in bed there’s a small slice in the wall and you can feel a light draft from it; they add up).
I think I will finally take advantage of having the landlord’s e-mail address, even if that’s not an “official” contact method, so he can easily see the pictures. Which I will try to put some of here in a while!
Update at 6:35 PM:
Okay, here are six pictures of the ceiling and walls above the suspended ceiling in the frigid bedroom closet. What do you think? The cracks seem to be leaky, but the evidence of historic water leakage is what makes me want to be sure the landlord knows, perhaps invoking work by them, rather than mere… caulking or whatever I could come up with for making the place warmer.
The last picture is a not great one showing the space by the window frame where there is rot behind the wallpaper. It appeared to be from water damage, which makes the stuff in the ceiling seem more significant.
Just thought I would run this one by you I learn a lot fixing the house in Plympton. As you know we had a problem with mold. I was told and have it in writing that when plaster, plaster board and ceilings get wet mold sets in wtihin 24 hours. Don’t know if that could also be a problem there?
