Excitement in the Neighborhood
Well, we didn’t make it to my grandmother’s because Sadie needed to nap at length at a preventative time, and we try to take those naps when we can get them. She’s a terror when she stays awake all day. Thus we were here to see two firetrucks, an ambulance, and a personal pickup truck of one of the emergency people pull up across the street.
One of the things we’ll miss when we move is the awesome across the street neighbors. They are an elderly couple in a big old house, where they raised nine kids. Often as not, their place is crawling with visiting kids and grandkids. They are the nicest people and of course they just loved meeting Sadie recently.
I assumed when the ambulance pulled up that it was for one of them, perhaps due to the heat and not having or using sufficient air conditioning. As it turned out, it was the daughter who still lives with them. I don’t know exactly what is up with her, but she appears to have some trouble walking, and to be mildly retarded or something that makes her appear so. Odd, but perhaps she has recurring problems that sometimes are an emergency. She was sitting up and looked alert. Strange. At least it didn’t appear too dire…
