GE Rocks, and They Are Not Alone
Remember how the dishwasher repair guy from GE got to our house first thing in the morning and was so great?
Deb’s grandmother got us a washer and dryer for Christmas. They’re fairly basic, sturdy GE models, ordered through Sam’s Club. Yay! No more going to the laundromat!
Anyway, we got a call at 8:00 saying they’d be here in 25 minutes. This was the first we’d heard from them to arrange the delivery. I went down and scraped the snow from behind the building up to the cellar door, and as I was finishing they were there, about 15 minutes after calling.
On a side note, my understanding was that we were jointly responsible for the entire driveway, not just clearing around our own cars. Thus the lady downstairs being so excitable about my helping. Yet late yesterday, a truck came along and rather thoroughly plowed out the place. Thus the minimal effort required to shovel to the cellar door. Also did around both vehicles and touched up the steps while the delivery was happening and just after they left.
Anyway, the guy who spoke some English met me in the driveway and went in the cellar to scope things out. He disconnected the dryer and turned off the water while I turned on the cellar lights and got the dryer hose. When he saw that it was 8’ he said it would be too short. It was all they had at Lowe’s. But that’s okay, he declared, there was a spare hose in the truck, and we had a connector left over from the old hose.
He got that hooked up and spliced and ready, while the other guy had the machines unpacked and sitting on the street. They brought in the dryer, took the old washer, brought the new washer, hooked it all up, then took the old dryer, just like that, friendly and efficient as could be. It’s amazing to watch people who do this for a living. This is the second time I’ve been completely impressed by people representing General Electric. These guys also deliver for Maytag and another appliance company, but GE is in overall charge, getting their name on the truck, and on the uniforms because they supply those.
We’re blown away by her grandmother’s generosity. Apparently she remembers being in that kind of position; appliances dying and other stuff coming up, having to decide what to replace or pay for first, and she figured we’d really need it with the new baby coming soon.
Wow.
