If you stop trying to prevent it, it comes back. Big surprise, that. Not.
This is why we vaccinate.
One of my favorite lines from House was where he was trying to explain the value of vaccines to a young crunchy-granola-hippy-dippy mom who was convinced that they’re a drug company profit-making scam...I can’t remember it exactly (dammit!), but it was something about the market for teeny, tiny coffins…
Yes, that was the gist of it.
Posted by Ith on 01/12 at 09:47 PMI loved that line too! Too bad I can’t find the exact quote, although I think that’s the ep. that will be on Tuesday…
Posted by caltechgirl on 01/12 at 11:51 PMOh my. Hardline clerics are the ones who led the boycott? Hmmmmm.....I bet they were vaccinated long ago. So now there are some more children whose lives are screwed over because of religious mooks....sigh.

I believe the quote made reference to the growth potential for the makers of those teeny tiny coffins.
I know a few folks like that, refusing to have their children vaccinated for one reason or another. They’re the ones who have no memory of the polio epidemics, the deaths caused by measles outbreaks, and a host of other diseases we rarely see anymore because of vaccinations.
I recall an episode of ER where a mother brought her sick child into the hospital. He was burning up with fever and semi-conscious. The docs did everything they could but the child died....of measles. His mother didn’t have him vaccinated because she believed the hype about vaccines causing autism. Well her son didn’t fall prey to autism, but he did die of an otherwise preventable disease.
It’s scary to think that far fewer children are vaccinated today than a generation ago. I think we can look forward to outbreaks of diseases we haven’t seen in decades because of this trend. Of course we can count on the families of those dying of those preventable diseases to start suing the doctors/hospitals/etc because of it.
Posted by DCE on 01/13 at 10:26 AMMy father had polio. No kid of mine will skip any available vaccinations.
That damn autism crap. A couple times now I’ve seen that cited as having been completely disproven, then a short time later seen it cited as a fact or as still subject to doubt.
Posted by Jay on 01/13 at 10:39 AMThere seems to be so much controversy regarding vaccinations...my children have all been(and will continue to be)vaccinated because I do feel that it is the best way to go. It is just a little scary though reading those information sheets they pass out at the office explaining the risks etc. The risk is so small that something “bad” will happen after vaccination, that it just makes sense to me to do it.
Posted by Sharon on 01/13 at 11:20 AMIt’s been a long time since I’ve been so into a show. Love it! And I started an email discussion list for it, so if anyone is interested, email me
