It’s Monday
Get up and notice that maybe the big client is having a server problem. Confirm that when it starts working again before you even can get out the door, courtesy of an employee there rebooting things. Without making sure the cheap KVM switches stay turned to each server as it reboots, so now multiple of them don’t know they have a mouse until they are rebooted again. When only one of them barfed in the first place.
Find out that the client paged you, but the pager didn’t work, as it also doesn’t for a test page from yourself. Remind the big client there is also a cell phone for times like this. Call the pager people later, find that there is nothing obviously wrong and a reset on their end fixes it right up, and oh by the way glad you called would you like to renew your contract that expires in April.
Get to the office and find the door won’t unlock. Or with a spare key. Or with the building’s master key. It had been acting up slightly. Slightly; not “I will abruptly stop working any moment.” Got in through the adjoining daycare for which the hall of my office is an emergency egress. Locksmith came and fixed it right up, and also noticed the master key is a crappy copy and arranged to get a good one for them.
Yep, it’s Monday.
Worse, I had decided this would be a “do not pass Go, do not do anything but billing until billing is done” day, which is clearly a mistake. Something goes wrong or an emergency happens without fail, every single time I ever decide in advance that my day is going to be all about billing. I should know better.
