Yesterday she went on her first ever trip to the store, to Target for supplies, including a bath tub so she can have more fun than mere sponge baths allow. She loves baths and should really love the real thing.
Since we were in the area, we visited the place where a cousin of mine works, which is also one of my clients. Just as she did visiting my grandmother last week, she slept all the way through being cooed and admired at by a couple dozen people. It just totally made their day.
She was a perfect angel for the entire trip, except a crying bout in the doctor’s office. I got her to stop by doing a monologue while we looked into a mirror. She was apparently fascinated watching my mirror image’s mouth flapping away. She had to eat a bit more too, before she really settled down. We cooled our heels for a while because one of her fingers was unnaturally red and the doctor wanted to see if it went away. It did; she had gripped too tight and cut off circulation.
In addition to liking baths, and having learned that being changed is a Good Thing so she doesn’t fight it as much, she now seems to have learned that we pat her back to get the gas up. She has gas issues to a surprising and painful degree. So, as of today, the very act of trying to burp her can make her happy. She seems to be so bright we’re going to be in trouble.
Being perverse, I recorded her crying and complaining. It’s a riot playing it back. She freaks out and starts again if she’s stopped, or redoubles her efforts. Deb just totally appreciates my sense of humor in this matter. Deb’s mother was thrilled to get a couple minutes of MP3 files of Sadie, even if most of it was crying.
She inherits her genes from you and Deb, and you’re surprised she’s “so bright [you’re] going to be in trouble?”
Not me, I could’a told you that from the get-go.
