Potty Bound
Um… what is the earliest that anyone has ever heard of a child being potty trained?
How about wanting to be potty trained?
Sadie is showing signs of having figured out that big people use the bathroom and maybe she should too. On top of a generalized desire not to wear a diaper anymore if she can help it.
We think it’s too soon for her to be able to learn, even if she’s started to get the notion. However, it made me curious just how young is the young side for training.
I was starting at about a year, according to my mother. Of course, I was the child who never needed a diaper changed and never wet the bed....
If she’s interested, go for it. If she’s showing signs that she wants to try and that she ‘gets’ the concept, then she’s probably ready. Even if it’s only part time for now, it will help later on. Certainly would be cheaper/easier with #2 coming.
Posted by caltechgirl on 08/17 at 07:01 PMMy daughter started at 11 months. Had it mastered by 14 months. Now pooping was a different story, she was two months shy of her 2nd birthday. Get a potty seat that snaps onto the toliet seat, they look like a arm chair except no legs. You don’t have to worry about them falling in or over. They have them at Walmart. It’s also easier to flush than to dump every time.
Posted by on 08/17 at 07:09 PMMy daughter started about 10-11 months, too. She had it pretty much perfected by 12 or 13 months. It was far, FAR easier to potty train her than it was to wean her. heh
Posted by Pammy on 08/17 at 08:33 PMI have heard of children being trained as early as 12-13 months. How awesome would it be to have just one kid in diapers?!?! Woohoo!
Posted by Sharon on 08/18 at 06:17 AMMy mom started us (3 kids) early, and had us completely potty trained by 12 months. If Sadie is showing interest, go for it!
