Recipe: Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies
Another recipe courtesy of my sister…
Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies
1/2 Cup shortening
1/2 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup molasses
1 Egg
3 1/2 Cups flour
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon ginger
1 Teaspoon cloves
1 1/2 Teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 Cup buttermilk (or milk with a dab of vinegar)
Cream shortening, sugar and molasses. Add egg. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Chill. Roll on lightly floured surface (or wax paper). Cut (use a glass or something) and bake at 350° approximately 10 minutes - until just set. Sprinkle with sugar before baking, or decorate with frosting or glaze after. They are good plain too.
these remind me of my grandmother. Mmmmmm.
