About

Long, long ago in a blogosphere far, far away, we met in each other's comments. Who would have guessed that three years later we'd be married and blogging about our two daughters? Not us, but here we are!

Sadie Antics and Light Blogging

So today we have to get up and moving in a way we don’t often have to do, getting ready to attend a wedding.  Car permitting.  Never did get around to running it ahead of time to make sure it still works…

Thus the Sadie Radar went off last night and she Would. Not. Sleep.  As in the most inconsolable she has ever been about the idea.  Sadly, this happened after she was sound asleep.  She filled a diaper most uncomfortably, waking against her will, and that was it until a couple hours later.  You’d think she’d been dosed with caffeine, she was so wired.

Part of it may have been that is was hotter than she has ever experienced.  In the bedroom, it’s possible the fan was bothering rather than soothing her.  Mostly she just seemed uncomfortably gassy.

Usually Deb nursing her some more, or even just holding and rocking her, works.  If not, having me hold and rock her is like magic.  Worst case, I take her to a darker room and do it.  One time I had to just let her play on the computer room floor until she fell out there.  No dice.  In the bedroom, she wanted to look at her mother if she was in sight, or into the lit up kitchen.  Even when almost asleep, when a car when by and a filtered light shadow slid across the wall, she was intent on watching that, fascinated and completely alert.  In the computer room there were car lights in the window, she wanted to get at my desk if on my lap, sat on the floor staring at me when I put her down, and completely focused on getting at the computer if the monitor was on so I could be less bored while waiting for her to crash.  In the living room, she kept almost falling to sleep on me, then something would creak up in the other apartment.  So soft it would never be noticed, normally.  Yet enough to fire her into total alertness.  Giving her some water seemed to help, if only because it helped her burp more.  I finally gave up and put her in the crib to cry herself to sleep.  It was coolest there, once asleep she wouldn’t have to be moved, and we ran out of options.  The two of us sat in the dark in the computer room for the half hour or so it took, getting frustrated because she’d stop crying, then we’d whisper to each other and Sadie would hear it and start up again.

It may have been problems processing all the “people food” she ate last night.  She has declared herself a largely babyfood-free zone.  Last night she had chicken, stuffing, carrots, and steamed apple and cherry pieces.  She’s also declared herself an insatiable eater, which all seems to go to adding height.

We got to sleep about 3:30.  I’ve been waking off and on since before 7:00 and was up at 8:20.  Target time to leave for New Hampshire is noon, with an absolute latest of 1:00.  It’s a two hour or just over drive.  The last time we drove to that area on a Saturday it took around four hours.  The last time we drove through that area, on the way to Vermont, if I recall correctly it took three hours.  Joy.

Anyway, I have to go get ready, do some errands, prepare the car and camera, and help Deb get Sadie and her stuff ready, none of which entails blogging.  Except if some idle commentary comes to mind during a quick break, there won’t be more blogging today.  Or tomorrow morning, as we rush off to go to breakfast with my father on his birthday.

  1. I would blame the cherries. They are a bit hard on the digestive tract. Lots of acid in them.
