Sadie Food Milestone
Tonight Sadie had her first “real” food.
We baked three sweet potatoes into submission. Two of them we ate with dinner. They were superb examples of the genre. The third one went in the new blender, even though it barely needed it, making it also our first test of the new appliance. I learned that it would have probably worked better in the food processing attachment with the choppy blades, rather than the blender attachment with the blending blade, if only due to the small volume. It also needed water added, even beyond the little bit I used.
Anyway, it came out plenty fine enough for her to enjoy probably 4 ounces for supper, with as much again for tomorrow. It tasted as good as what we had, and she seemed to know the difference. Couldn’t get enough of it. Between it being thicker than the commercial foods, and her desire to chow it down, it was one of the least messy meals she’s had. Sweet potatoes will be on the menu here more often now. It’s one of her favorites, and we don’t have to rely on the baby food makers for it. Not to put them down; they seem to do an excellent job.
We’re wondering now which kind of apples would work best to turn into unsweetened applesauce for her. It seems like the next thing to try.
any of the “sweeter” apples would probably work. Red delicious, fuji, or gala would be my choice for those. Of course, Granny Smith is the traditional choice for sweetened applesauce, when she gets there....
