About

Long, long ago in a blogosphere far, far away, we met in each other's comments. Who would have guessed that three years later we'd be married and blogging about our two daughters? Not us, but here we are!

Sadie’s Big Day

Yesterday we left Sadie at my brother’s house with my mother and two cousins for an hour or so, then visited for a little while when we went to pick her up.  She was a bit overwhelmed by the two older kids, the younger of whom will be 4 in April.  They were being pretty much terrors.  Luckily she wasn’t there long enough for it to rub off.

Anyway, they have two sweet old golden retrievers and two kittens.  For Sadie, this was the highlight of the visit.  She got to pet one of the kitties, which are remarkably tolerant of the abuse heaped on them by the kids.  She also got to play “nose” with one of the dogs.  She’d reach out and touch the dog’s nose with a finger, and the dog would lick her hand.  So cute.  What a good introduction to dogs up close; a laid back, friendly, seen it all and not easily alarmed, 15 year old female golden.

Of course, that was just the start of a fun day for Sadie that made up for being rudely awakened two or three hours early.  She got to hang out at the office and eat a chicken nugget happy meal.  She ate three of the four nuggets and half or so of the fries.  The big surprise was the drink.  We ordered apple juice and it came in a drink box.  We decided to let Sadie try drinking through the straw, and as Deb mentioned, she did it as if she’s always been drinking that way.  I could never get her to use a straw before.

She got to play with her computer at the office, which she remembered about after all this time.  She also has a toy there still, and all the things that aren’t toys until she gets her hands on them.  And there are Kooshes.  She likes tossing those into boxes.

Then we went to Lowe’s, partly just to look around, partly to buy a dryer vent hose.  I also got some thin, solid solder just to have in case.  Completely forgot we wanted to buy a new, spare snow shovel.  Completely forgot to look for good earplugs.  Remembered in Lowe’s that we need a filter for the Brita container, but forgot to buy one when we were in Wal-Mart.

Which was our other stop.  Sadie slept through Lowe’s, but woke up for Wal-Mart.  We got a bunch of odds and ends we were out of or low on, and looked at some things for future reference.

To top off the day, I made curly pasta with red sauce and hamburger; one of Sadie’s all time favories.  She had two helpings, amounting to a significant fraction of what I ate, and she ate an entire slice of gralic bread.  I assumed she’d eat half a slice of bread and one of us would eat the other half.

Sadly, the day ended on a sour note, as she seemed to get a stomach ache from eating too much too fast, and have a lot of tooth pain besides.  On top of being sleepy.  Oh well.

Here’s a picture of Sadie wearing her nice winter jacket that everyone comments about:
