So Sad
But not unexpected. The West Wing will be ending with its seventh season.
Personally, I’d love to see it continue with either a Santos or Vinick administration. I’d love to see the storyline of Leo, played by the late John Spencer, suddenly dying and needing to be replaced, either before or after the election. It’s possible they have enough in the can that his death won’t need to be accounted for at all, but it would if we had a Santos administration to watch.
Well, such is the fuel of fan fiction.
Of course, they can now do any crazy thing and not have to clean up after it next season. For instance, Santos wins, takes on Vinick as a replacement VP. For instance, Santos takes on Sam Seaborn as VP, dies or leave office, and Sam is the next President. It’s been speculated it might be Sam who steps out of the Presidential limo after the cutaway in the season opener. Or Leo. Guess we’ll see, if they return to that scene near the end of the season.
Oh well. I missed a lot of episodes, so it has the chance to live on via DVD. Eventually.
From an article I saw, they are trying to make it as “realistic” as possible. However, they have found no provision in any official document for contingencies if a VP candidate dies. It should be interesting how they create this story line.
