Speaking of Sadie
Yesterday she did her first clear mimicry of me. I taught her early to hold out her arms to be picked up, but that’s spotty; she seldom actually does it and has to be encouraged.
She was sitting in her exersaucer with her arms tucked down in the seat. Well, that’s no fun, since there are toys attached to the thing and on the shelf that she can play with. She can already reach some she couldn’t several days ago when she first test drove it. For instance, spinning the butterfly at will.
So I started talking to her, told her she ought to not keep her hands tucked down there. “Can’t you put them out?” I demonstrated putting them out straight in front of me. She shocked the hell out of me by immediately putting her arms out, more or less straight, onto the shelf, then tucking them back in and looking amused.
That just goaded me on, and I was saying “yay!” and praising her performance. Speaking of which, she apparently recognizes “yay!” as a happy word already. So I said “can you throw up your arms,” threw my arms up in the air gleefully, and beamed at her. She threw her arms up the same way! It was the coolest thing.
Unfortunately, she also comes with a temper and stubborn streak. Yesterday she held her little Eeyore with one ear in each hand and pulled them rather angrily. Poor Eeyore. Then she threw him about three feet. She also had a tantrum about which side she would nurse on. Very opinionated for her age.
Isn’t that just the best? I love when the mimicking phase comes about! And yeah the stubborn streak...Emily inherited Ryun’s for sure...watch out when she gets older!
