Spring Is A Feeling
Last week, even as we had an unseasonably frigid day, even as we recovered from the latest storm, spring was in the air. Inexplicable as it might sound, we both could feel it. I noticed it even before I stepped out of the house, and especially outside, and Deb noticed it within the house.
It was the intensity of the sunshine. It was a clear feeling of impending spring wedging inexorably between the nasty winter and us. Spring was lurking, behind it all, melting or sublimating the snow faster than the ambient temperature would imply.
Not 48 hours after a snow ended, we found ourselves happy to feel winter drawing to an end. So we can continue to whine at weather events like Friday night and Saturday’s slush and snow, and the possibility of snow next weekend, but it’s a losing campaign by a winter slow to step down and end its bleak regime. The cracks are evident. The scent of spring is upon us. It is time.
I’d kill for snow. Seattle hasn’t even had enough mountain snow this year to sustain the ski season.

The temperature was 90 degrees. We were walking outside to go play in the back yard and she said, “Mama, what’s that smell?” The only thing I could smell was that warm air, summery smell. I just though it was funny for her (a four year old at that time) to even notice it.
