Strange Relief
This afternoon I mailed our tax returns to the US, MA and CA tax people. Since I owe more than you’d care to know, this ought to be a particularly unhappy time.
And yet… I feel like a massive weight has lifted! The crap has been shoveled for this year, the pile is out of the way, and I can move on to other chores and thoughts. I feel free, energetic, and optimistic in a way I haven’t recently.
Maybe it’s just that it’s spring and there are real temperatures in the forecast for days on end, and even lots of sun. Really, though, I think it’s because the annual slog through tax season is finished and I can focus on other things. It really takes a psychic toll.
Here’s to the pending repeal of the 16th Amendment and switch to a consumption tax!
