Suppose You Had Two Pints of Fresh Blueberries…
That you bought because they were insanely cheap. At least, 99¢ a pint is cheap around here. That seems cheap even to someone who places a low value on blueberries because he grew up being able to step into the woods and pick mass quantities of them for free.
What would you make with them? That doesn’t require baking? Other than blueberry pancakes or feeding Sadie some raw blueberries as something different? (Apple & blueberry babyfood was one of her top favorites ever.)
Any suggestions? I figured pancakes, but that will only use so many.
Firtst thing that came to mind was making Kathy’s cranberry pie recipe with blueberries (which I have done and it was yummy) but that requires baking.

Posted by Deb on 07/13 at 12:03 PMMix the berries with some whipped cream sweetend with sugar or Equal and add some cinnamon. You don’t even have to whip the cream if you don’t want. Or use half n half. The cinnamon does something divine to the blueberries. Much better than strawberries and cream.

Blueberry custard pie or blueberrys in a vanilla pudding pie.
(Requires a *little* baking, I know, but still not really much, just to firm the crust prior to filling it.)Not sure of the exact amount, but if they are slightly tart, could grill a piece of tuna steak, and use the blueberrys and some raspberrys along with a little lime to make a simple flavor sauce for it. Another fish might be better for that though would need to be a somewhat stronger flavored fish.

Posted by Margi on 07/13 at 02:59 PMI also recently bought an excess of blueberries. With the extra I put about 3tbs of water in a sauce pan, about a cup of sugar (slowly) and cooked it until the sugar was completely melted and I could smell the sugar, added a pint of blueberries and simmered for awhile (until they fell apart.) We use it as an ice cream topping, pancake topping, to make milkshakes, you name it! Good stuff and it keeps well in a closed jar in the refrigerator.
