The Right Thing
Michelle Kwan has done the right thing. She’s amazing, but she should never have been in Italy in the first place. At least she recognized it in the end. No psychological Heimlich will be needed.
But… why is Emily Hughes, the alternate, not already over there? Don’t the alternates attend because, you know, they might be needed on short enough notice that it might be hard to get there otherwise? Blizzards happen.
Sheesh.
My assumption was the time factor. Ten days till the ladies short program, and since many athletes don’t show up till a few days before their events, they probably figured it was safe to leave her home. Now, what I’d like to know, is if they had plans to bring her in later in the games in case of a last minute pull out?
