What Are Your Favorite Christmas or Seasonal Songs?
It’s that time again! Share your favorite songs (generic or by artist) of the season with us.
I always make a list and then say “ooh, ooh!” later, wanting to add some good one I forgot. But here’s a few off the top of my head:
Do You Hear What I Hear, the version by Andy Williams. Love to sing along with it.
Merry Christmas Darling by The Carpenters. I still miss Karen Carpenter, with her unmistakable voice.
Holly Jolly Christmas. The definitive one being Burl Ives, from Rudolph, but I also have fond memories of performing this song in junior high chorus.
Someday At Christmas, by Stevie Wonder. Beautiful, even if too unrealistically utopian.
A Soalin’ by Peter, Paul and Mary. I just now Googled to learn the official name of the song, which I’d have called “Soul Cake” otherwise.
I could name more, and specifically name one or more traditional ones. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, for instance, but it’s hard to choose. I am certain to see some of your choices and go “ooh, ooh!,” whether Kotter’s here or not. Five songs are enough to get it rolling.
I like the fun songs. “I saw mommy kissing Santa Clause”, “Grandma got run over by a reindeer” the chipmunk versions. It could be because I have kids who really enjoy those songs.
One of my personal favorites (I’m hell at remembering names of songs) is the one about “brown paper packages tied up with strings...thsese are a few of my favorite things” you know..that one. lol
We watied all day on Thanksgiving for the Adam Sandler Turkey song but never heard it.
Happy Holidays to your family. It really is that time of year already.

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things is something I tend to associate primarily with The Sound of Music, not so much Christmas. That’s also another song we did in chorus when I was young, so I used to know all the words. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, something something and warm woolen mittens, etc.
Posted by Jay on 12/03 at 03:26 PMFor some weird reason I really like I’ll have a blue Christmas by Elvis.
Posted by Wayne on 12/03 at 05:30 PMThe theme from Charlie Brown Christmas is my favorite. I was in a school musical production of You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and I have such great memories of watching the Charlie Brown TV specials.
Posted by on 12/03 at 08:17 PMO Come, O Come, Emmanuel. This was one of the songs at the Church Christmas program about 6 years ago. It’s stuck with me.
Do You Hear What I Hear. In Junior High Choir I played the triangle for this song at the concert, as well as singing soprano. Whew! That songs gets up there. I can’t sing that song any more.
Then there are my traditional ones, Silver Bells and White Christmas.
Last, but not least, O Christmas Tree. I like just about every Christmas Hymn there is, too.Posted by on 12/03 at 08:54 PMMerry Christmas Darling is my all time fave. Love that song! I also like Josh Groban’s version of O Holy Night.
Posted by Sharon on 12/04 at 12:12 AM"Santa Baby”. Eartha Kitt.
Best. Xmas. Song. Ever!
Posted by Ian Hamet on 12/04 at 06:57 PMI grew up with Johnny Mathis’ “Merry Christmas” album, so that just SCREAMS Christmas to me.My favorites are: Bing Crosby’s version of White Christmas, Judy Garland’s pathetically sad “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” from Meet Me in St. Louis, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, and the Barenaked Ladies version of “We Three Kings”
Posted by caltechgirl on 12/04 at 10:27 PMLate to the party, but here’s my fave two:
