What Good Is a Power Supply Tester…
If it’s going to tell you that a bad power supply is perfectly good?
Proving a power supply bad by the fact that replacing it solves the problem is what I’ve always been able to do without owning a tester. The one in question tests perfectly, but the machine won’t turn on and the power supply has that telltale “components frying” smell. With a brand new one, no problem.
Sheesh. That’s very disappointing, because the office is littered with old power supplies, mostly bad but some good, that were not properly labeled as to their status - or tossed immediately if known to be bad. I was hoping to go through them and be able to identify any lost good ones. If I can’t trust the tester, I may as well toss them all, since a bad one that’s believed to be good could fry the motherboard the first time it’s used in a machine.
