About

Long, long ago in a blogosphere far, far away, we met in each other's comments. Who would have guessed that three years later we'd be married and blogging about our two daughters? Not us, but here we are!

Doggies!

--Jay at 11:11 PM--

Speaking of pets, through sheer chance my father once got one of the coolest dog pictures ever as he approached up the walk to the back door of his old house in Vermont.  My stepsister was visiting with all her dogs, so there was an overabundance of Goldens.  Well, if there can ever be too many.

I’m posting a small closeup and a somewhat larger one if you click that, then a small version of the full picture, which you can click for larger, and finally, a text link to the full scan.  Aren’t they cute?  A bit fuzzy in translation, but oh well.

Full scan of the picture

If I have them pegged correctly, from left to right they are Kashmir (Kaz), Jake, Peter, Autumn, Foxy, and Brandy.  I am not completely certain of two of them.  Sadly, Kaz, Jake and Brandy are no longer with us.

Doggies!

--Jay at 12:26 PM--

Mickey has a new Carnival of the Dogs this week.  Very nice.

You could say that Mickey isn’t very dogged about badgering people to participate, or going out seeking entries, so please help her out here.  I know cats are not the only critters beloved in the blogosphere.  Dogs have their place too.  So please please please, get the word out, and submit entries liberally.  Even if you’re conservative.  I have personally seen at least four excellent potential entries for CotD in the past week.

You can always check Mickey’s Musings for more info and updates as to what is happening.  If you have or see a post to submit, e-mail the URL to mickeym -at- comcast.net.

Doggies!

--Jay at 05:26 PM--

I visited a probable new client this afternoon, and it was so cool being in a place where there are pets at work.  There was much attention in recent years to the handful of companies allowing dogs at work.  Here there was at least one dog, a little white one who became instantly attached to me, even to the point of following me around instead of his owner (animals often react this way to me).  There were cats, one of which I met.  There was the friendliest rabbit I’ve ever seen.  And there was a rather shy hamster, plus a goldfish I didn’t actually get to see.

Not so surprising.  It’s a pet food (and other products) distributor!

The economy is so lousy, they added 27,000 square feet onto their warehouse and ran out again after three months.  Impressive.

They are getting into some neat things there.  There’s a timeclock that hooks directly into the network, that they’re just in the process of getting working.  There’s a computer being used in conjunction with it, that people can also use for signing in and out, and for looking up what they have for time, what their pay will be, etc.  They also have one of those networked printer copier devices that you can even e-mail from directly.

Next thing they’re thinking of is computerized security for the warehouse, so it logs who accesses the place when and so forth.  I was telling them about IP cameras that hook directly into a network.  Too expensive for my purposes, but probably cheap compared to traditional security cameras.  Sounds cool.  They’ll also be doing something with bar code scanning, apparently.

But this wasn’t about the technology.  It was about the doggies!  And other critters.  My partner has opined that we should someday have headquarters in which dogs can come to the office.  Technically our lease forbids it, but we are not the only people in the building who have had dogs visit when needed.  Like when my partner is going straight from here to visit his parents on the Cape, or is coming home from there, and has Sparky with him.

Anyone out there, who doesn’t work at home, have a job where you can take your dog, cat or whatnot with you to work?
