About

Long, long ago in a blogosphere far, far away, we met in each other's comments. Who would have guessed that three years later we'd be married and blogging about our two daughters? Not us, but here we are!

I Got Nothin’

--Jay at 11:22 AM--

As Deb always used to say when she was blogged out.

I am sitting here trying to think of what I might have to say this morning, and nothing comes to mind.  It’s the last day Deb’s parents are here, as they leave first thing tomorrow morning.  They’ve had great fun visiting Sadie, and now it’ll be back to pictures.

They met my mother, grandmother, aunt, somethingth cousin something removed and her father last night at my grandmother’s house.  That was nice, but hectic.  My grandmother had someone who hasn’t heard all the stories!  All the better, since these days most of the stories are recent and she forgets from day to day that you’ve already heard them.  That can happen when you’re 88.

My cousin gave us a wonderful quilt she made for Sadie, which is big enough to be used for longer than the other quilts and blankets we’ve received.  I think my favorites have been the blanket from Mr. and (almost) Mrs. Weekend Pundit, and the “frame it and hang it on a wall because it’s too stunning to be real” quilt Deb’s grandmother had made.

I managed to go to the office and in 2.5 hours tie up some loose ends of problems, including that lost internet connectivity thing.  I was careful to set a restore point for before I started.  I deleted some known malware file still there, even though they weren’t actually running or actively a problem.  I compared a similar XP machine nearby to make sure no settings were off.  There was an oddity in which blocking was not turned on overall for TCP/IP, but the checkboxes were selected for allow only instead of allow all.

Finally, I ended up seeing a logged error in which proxy client couldn’t open a particular text file.  Which didn’t exist in the mspclnt directory.  Leading me to a second such directory and an obvious mish-mash having happened in the removes and reinstalls.  Leading me to look at the setup.stf in Excel, which gave me ideas.

I remarked out with ; the lines for proxy client in win.ini and system.ini, deleted the two directories created by installs, and re-re-reinstalled proxy client.  Success!  On the network and on the internet.  Apparently it did center around damage to winsock proxy client, just not merely damage to registry entries as the utility I tried was fixing.

Gee, I guess maybe I had more than nothin’ after all.

This makes today an easier day than it could have been.  I may do some web site work and planning for work I need to catch up on in the next two weeks.

Deb’s parents gave us a big crockpot and a roast.  It needed to be used before it spoiled, so at 10:40 last night I put it on 10 hour slow cook with about 3 lbs of roast, some carrots, a small amount of potato, and spices from the preliminary browning in a frying pan.  Plus extra water.  It smelled yummy all night.  Didn’t need it to be done at 8:40 in the morning, but oh well.  We’ll probably have some nice shredded beef sandwiches.  I went to cut it to see if it was done.  It shredded.  Tasted good too, but far more beefy than spicy.

Anyway, off I go.  Now that I wrote nothin’ that was something, I’ll probably start thinking of more somethings to write.

I Got Nothin’

--Jay at 09:17 AM--

The antics last night are covered so well, on so many blogs, I hardly need to mention them.  However, you could do worse than to go here for some thoughts and a huge link roundup by James Joyner.  Why duplicate such a fine effort?

I got nothin’.

--Deb at 05:58 PM--

Yeah, I know I’ve been pretty quiet this week.

I seem to be going through one of those phases where the back of my mind is working at full speed, but it isn’t sharing with the rest of me.  Times like this I wind up with a condition that isn’t exactly writer’s block...it’s more like writer’s constipation.

*dropping that metaphor before it can do any more damage*

...this post has been sitting in Notepad for an hour now and I haven’t been able to think up a cute elaboration.  This is what I mean…

Pity the ‘sphere when my voice comes back.

Happy Friday, y’all.
